No. 1 Area (London, Home Counties and Overseas)

Saturday 26th April

There will be a workshop on how to get the best out of a rehearsal. The workshop will be held by Dr. Roy Newsome and Melvyn White with the KM Medway Band, and will be held at The Gravesend Salvation Army Hall 34 The Grove Gravesend Kent DA12 1DX from 1:30 to 4:30. Gravesend is easily accessible from the A2 (leave at Junction 2 of the M25) and there is a large car park nearby.

The workshop will look at how to prepare a piece of music for either a concert or contest. The pieces of music selected to be prepared are “Paganini Variations” by Philip Wilby and piece by Ray Steadman-Allen from the Salvation Army catalogue. Ray Steadman-Allen is a National Vice President of the NABBC and has long and respected connections with the Salvation Army and its music.

Admission is free to members of the NABBC and to any other conductor who completes a membership application form on the day accompanied by the annual subscription (£30 for Full and Associate Members, £15 for students and senior citizens). Admission for non-members is £5 which will be payable on the day. However, everyone is welcome and the Workshop will be of great benefit to all players as well as conductors.

This is an ideal opportunity for both conductors and players to see, and hear, two of the top British conductors and band trainers in rehearsal and to take away some useful tips and ideas.

In the evening the South London Fellowship Brass Band are giving a concert at the hall and everyone would be welcome to stay attend this concert which will commence at 7.00 p.m.
